What is a Discount Calculator and How Does it Work?
A discount calculator is a free online tool that instantly computes the sale price, amount saved, and effective percentage off for any product or service. Whether you're a shopper hunting deals during Black Friday 2026, a retailer setting markdown prices, or a business calculating bulk-purchase savings, FinanceKit Pro's discount calculator handles it all โ in 170+ global currencies including USD, GBP, EUR, AED, SGD, CAD, AUD, INR, and JPY.
The Discount Formula Explained
All four modes on this page use simple, mathematically verified formulas:
๐ Discount Amount = Original Price ร (Discount % รท 100)
๐ฐ Sale Price (Final) = Original Price โ Discount Amount
๐ Original Price (Reverse) = Sale Price รท (1 โ Discount%/100)
๐ Discount % (Find %) = ((Original โ Sale) รท Original) ร 100
๐ฆ Stacked Discount = Apply each % sequentially on the running price
Step-by-Step Example: 35% Off $280
Worked Example โ Retail Shopping (USD)
Original Price: $280 | Discount: 35%
Discount Amount = 280 ร (35 รท 100) = 280 ร 0.35 = $98.00
Sale Price = 280 โ 98 = $182.00
You save $98 โ that's 35% off the original retail price.
When to Use Stacked Discount Mode
Stacked coupons are common during major sale events like Amazon Prime Day, Cyber Monday, and Black Friday in the US, UK, Australia, UAE, and Canada. For example, a product costs $400. The retailer gives 20% off, and you have an extra 15% member coupon. These are NOT simply added together (35% total). Instead:
Stacked Coupon Example โ $400 Product
After 20% off: $400 ร 0.80 = $320
After additional 15% off: $320 ร 0.85 = $272
Effective discount = ((400 โ 272) รท 400) ร 100 = 32% total (not 35%!)
Total saved = $128
Who Uses a Discount Calculator?
This tool is used daily by millions of people worldwide: online shoppers in the USA, UK, Australia, Canada, UAE and Singapore comparing prices across Amazon, eBay, and Shopify stores; retailers and e-commerce businesses calculating markdown prices, clearance discounts, and promotional offers; real estate agents computing price reductions on property listings; finance professionals working on bulk-purchase negotiations; and students and teachers learning percentage arithmetic in the classroom.

How do I calculate a percentage discount online for free?โพ
Enter the original price and discount percentage in FinanceKit Pro's free discount calculator above. It instantly shows you the discounted price, how much money you save, and the final price โ no sign-up required. Works with USD, GBP, EUR, AED, INR, and 170+ currencies.
What is the formula for calculating a discount?โพ
Discount Amount = Original Price ร (Discount % รท 100). Final Sale Price = Original Price โ Discount Amount. Example: 30% off $200 โ Discount = 200 ร 0.30 = $60 โ Final Price = $200 โ $60 = $140. You save $60 (30% of the original).
How much is 20 percent off a given price?โพ
Multiply the original price by 0.20 to get the discount amount, then subtract it from the original. 20% off $150 = $150 ร 0.20 = $30 discount โ Final price = $120. Use the 20% preset button in our calculator for instant results on any price.
Can I find the original price from a discounted sale price?โพ
Yes โ use the Reverse Discount tab. Enter the sale price and the percentage that was discounted. The calculator uses: Original Price = Sale Price รท (1 โ Discount%/100). Example: Sale price $140, 30% off โ Original = 140 รท 0.70 = $200.
What is the difference between a stacked discount and a simple added discount?โพ
A simple added discount combines percentages (20% + 10% = 30%). A stacked discount applies each percentage sequentially: 20% off $100 = $80, then 10% off $80 = $72 โ an effective 28% discount, not 30%. Always use the Stacked Coupons tab for coupon-on-sale scenarios like Black Friday or Amazon Prime Day deals.
How do I calculate the discount percentage from original and sale price?โพ
Discount % = ((Original โ Sale) รท Original) ร 100. Example: Original $250, Sale Price $175 โ Discount = ((250โ175)รท250)ร100 = 30%. Use the "Find % Off" tab on FinanceKit Pro for instant results.
